St Mark’s Senior Youth Club “Time Out”
The Senior Youth Club meets at St Saviours Mission Church in Scott Road, each Friday during the school term. Youth club runs from 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm and is designed for those aged between 12 and 16 years of age.
Each member pays 50 pence subs each week, although if you are a newcomer your first night is free of charge. There is also a tuck shop, which sells the usual sweets and drinks. The only income we get is from the subs and tuck shop and all the money is ploughed back into the club to subsidise trip out or pay for special evenings such as Sumo wrestling. We currently tithe 10% of our income to the St Marks Raise the Roof appeal.
The idea behind the club is that the members can take “time out” and enjoy an evening with their friends in a safe environment. Each evening in the hall starts with “circle time” when we discuss various topics, pose a question for the clergy and keep everyone up to date on what is going on. We always end the “circle time” with a prayer.
Not everyone that comes to the club goes to Church but we still expect everyone to keep to the rules. This means no drinking, smoking or swearing! We have table air hockey, table football, table tennis, pool and snooker tables for our “open evenings”, and also organise quiz evenings or go out and about with our now traditional “walk between the piers” when we walk from Boscombe to Bournemouth, grab some chips and go back to Boscombe; normally on the coldest night of the year.
There is a limit to the numbers we can have at youth club but if you’d like to know more you can call me, Jim Divall on 512140. We would welcome more helpers, particularly ladies!
